2009 March Letter
In the movie The Golden Compass every human has a part of their soul that exists in animal form. In the story, this special animal is representative of the person’s personality and their bond is intimate. These animal partners remain within a small distance of their human. My cat, Callie, reminds of that movie. She is always within two feet of me. Not typically in my lap, but at my side. She follows me from room to room and has a designated perch within petting distance in my office. I’m not sure we share a personality, but she is definitely my cat. The bond between people and their pets is strong and an increasing number of pet owners are using holistic products and services. "Today, more vets than ever are answering public demand for alternative care for all types of pets, including birds and exotic animals," explains our feature article on page 30.
For ideas on caring for your pet naturally, attend the Healthy Living Expo on Saturday, March 14th at Brevard Community College in Melbourne, BCC is our new location this year. Diane Kingsley will present Pet Health from the Inside Out: A Wholistic Approach to Pet Care, plus various natural pet products will be on hand. This issue contains an expo program guide (page 53) detailing all the presentations and interactive demonstrations including: Tai Chi, QiGong, meditation, and yoga. Local experts will discuss aromatherapy, herbs, sleep issues, feng shui, and raw foods. I have my day planned and it includes a low-cost blood test by Wuesthoff, a massage, energy treatment, and a chiropractic screening. I’ll taste the healing herbal soups, organic chocolate, energy drinks, herbal tea, and have fun with a spirit reading. Then the best part – shopping!
