Achieve Balance with Nature
Apr 01, 2011 01:42AM ● By JeffriesWe all have an inherent need to spend time in Nature. Nature soothes the soul and our health and sense of well-being is directly connected to the health of our environment. Over thousands of years, Nature achieved balance among plants, animals, insects, and fungi. We too are a part of this interconnected web of life.
Over the past 50 years, as our area has been developed, that healthy balance of nature was changed. Air conditioned homes, cars, etc., with artificially maintained exotic landscapes became the norm. Gradually, some of us became aware of the need to preserve what little native habitat we had left, and to reestablish what was eliminated when our homes were built.
Naturescaping is a method of recreating natural ecosystems. This type of landscaping requires minimal water and care, and eliminates the need for chemical fertilizers and pesticides. This in turn, contributes to our health, and the health of our environment. There is great satisfaction to be found relaxing in the shade of a native mulberry tree, surrounded by plant life that sustains us and the creatures who were here before us. Whether it's watching birds and butterflies in your own backyard, or adding freshly harvested herbs to your meals, connecting with nature on a regular basis brings a sense of balance and well-being.
