Historical Holiday Scent – Frankincense
Apr 06, 2011 02:42AM ● By Doreen DeSerresThe essence and radiance of the essential oil, Frankincense (boswellia cateri), comes from deep within as if it were the blood and life source of this sacred and mystical plant.
It is found in Oman and in the Arabian peninsulas, as well as, the Himalayas of India. Traditionally this "holy herb" is harvested at the end of February when the bark is cut and a thin layer of wood is peeled off. A month later the process is repeated, then the juice (resin) flows from the inner wood, which will harden, become brittle and glitter to indicate its readiness. These are the tears of frankincense. These tears are also ground into a fine powder to be burned as incense. This is recognized as some of the finest incense in the world.
This holy botanical has been burned in temples to honor the gods and is still to this day used in catholic churches to dispel negativity and honor the trinity. It is well known that frankincense is one of the precious gifts presented to baby Jesus.
Frankincense is known as the sage and guardian of the supernatural. The soothing scent relaxes the nerves, calms the mind, and eases the passions of the soul. The high vibration of this plant, especially when steam distilled into a pure essential oil, will enhance the connection to higher consciousness and therefore assist one’s rise above earthly trials and tribulations.
This essential oil is highly concentrated and a little will go a long way. Frankincense essential oil extends well into jojoba and synergistic blends of essential oils can maximize healing. These blends can help diminish muscle fatigue, ease the soreness of joints, and regenerate tissue.
Frankincense is utilized in beautification blends to preserve skin texture and resilience. It is known to alter and delay the effects of the aging process on the epidermis and as it seeps into the body it will nourish from inside out to enhance beauty and wellness. On a wholistic level this botanical enhances beauty of the body, mind and spirit.
