Resolve to Use Your Imagination
Resolutions are popular at the New Year as a technique to change your ways, turn over a new leaf, or start a new. Unfortunately, we have all the same habits and patterns we had last year making it difficult to turn those resolutions into reality. Health Clubs see the biggest increase in new memberships at the beginning of every January, but statistics show they do not see a correlating increase in usage of the facilities.
Our habits can sabotage even the greatest of intentions. Less than 5% of the thoughts you have each day are new. 95% of what we think about today is the same as what we thought about yesterday. Our subconscious mind is where we store our habits and patterns, yet our willpower is a function of the conscious mind, creating a conflict. This combined with the knowledge that, as human beings, we are truly creatures of habit; it is not surprising that so many resolutions fail.
Which is more powerful, willpower or imagination? Many people would say willpower because they feel themselves to be strong-minded. However, if you ask those same people how last year’s New Year resolutions are going, most of them wouldn’t be able to tell you what those resolutions were.
If we were to ask those same people to think of a resolution and imagine themselves achieving that goal most, if not all, will be able to imagine themselves achieving their goal. Imagination is far more powerful than willpower. This process is part of a technique called "re-framing". Hypnotherapy uses your imagination to help you change your subconscious habits, making Hypnotherapy a wonderful choice for those who truly want to change and achieve their resolutions.
