Annual Celebration of the Mother: Durga Puja
Join Kashi Ashram for the annual celebration of the divine Mother at Durga Puja, or Navaratri. Each night participants can experience a different sacred vedic fire puja or homas, to one of the goddesses Kali, Laxmi and Saraswati. The final night of puja to Mother Durga culminates with a grand procession around the Ganga. This ancient tradition of fire ceremonies is used for purification and cleansing and is full of rich symbology, color and sound. These pujas have been done at sacred Kashi for more than 35 years.
All pujas start at 6:30 p.m. Kali Puja is October 12, Laxmi Puja October 13, Saraswati Puja October 19 and Durga Puja October 20. Suggested puja donation is $25 and includes a vegetarian dinner at 5 p.m.
Attendees can add a weekend retreat to their experience. Participants can attend all scheduled yoga classes on Saturday and Sunday, receive vegetarian dinners on Friday and Saturday, and stay in dormitory accommodations for $150 for two nights.
