Natural Awakenings Space & Treasure Coast Florida

Food Revolution Day at BCC YMCA

On Saturday, May 18 from 9am-1pm the Space Coast Food Revolution Day will be held at the BCC YMCA in Cocoa. Organizer Lily Fredrickson was inspired by Jamie Oliver and his movement to promote awareness for better food education and cooking skills. Oliver is the catalyst behind the hit television show that highlighted our country’s obesity issue and the lifestyles that contribute to it. “When he sent out a call for volunteers, I closed my eyes and leaped at the chance to do my part,” says Fredrickson. In 2012, Oliver’s volunteers held over 1,000 events across 664 cities in 62 different countries.

At this year’s event tips and information for a healthy lifestyle will be shared. Interact with local businesses including Natural Awakenings magazine, Appleseed Health Foods, Sunseed Food Co-op, Healthy Planet of Brevard, Banana Blossom Cakes, YMCA, Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, Rockledge Gardens, Mrs. Mango and Company, Sea Turtle Preservation Society and many more.

Food Revolution Day is accepting vendors that fit within the theme of “Healthy Eating and Healthy Choices” and the registration fee is a commitment to hand out a minimum of 30 fliers and to donate proceeds to the Jamie Oliver Food Foundation. Volunteers are also needed.

The event will be held at BCC YMCA, 1519 Clearlake Road in Cocoa. For more information please call 321-258-0851, email [email protected] or visit Facebook.com/FoodRevolutionDaySpaceCoast
