The Endocrine System’s Master Gland

The pituitary gland, located at the base of the brain, plays a vital role to proper metabolic balance. The small marble-shaped gland is divided into an anterior lobe and a posterior lobe. Overall, the pituitary gland regulates hormone functions such as our temperature, thyroid activity and growth activity during childhood. The anterior lobe secretes many hormones such as, growth hormones (GH) which stimulate cells to rapidly increase in size and divide, thyroid stimulating hormones (TSH) which feed and regulate thyroid function, adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) which regulates the adrenal cortex, prolactin which stimulates milk production in the breast, follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH), both exert their influence on the male and female gonads. Which are responsible for ova and sperm. In addition, melanocyte stimulating hormone (MSH) produces melanin determining the shade of our skin.
The posterior lobe secretes two hormones, anti diuretic hormone (ADH) which promotes water reabsorption by the kidneys and oxytocin, which stimulates uterine contractions and the release of milk after birth.
As you now can see this gland may be the culprit of many unwanted health issues such as stunted growth, adrenal insufficiency causing electrolyte imbalances, lack of milk production after birth, and hyper and hypothyroidism -- which seem to be rampant in our world today.
Here are some general aids for the pituitary gland to be used under advisement of a health professional:
Iodine is a non-metallic trace element required for the synthesis of thyroid hormones. Iodine deficiency is a common health problem but be sure and have your levels checked before supplementing.
Kelp is seaweed that takes in nutrients and minerals present in water and is a natural source of iodine.
Licorice root is a stimulant for the adrenal glands. It is also often used to sooth digestive issues.
Spirulina and Alfalfa are highly concentrated greens that provide nutritional support for the pituitary.
B-complex is a full complement of B vitamins that provide pituitary support and may relieve irritability, anxiety and depression.
Blessed thistle is an herb given its name due to its reputation as a cure-all. It is an excellent source of potassium and is used for a variety of ailments including thyroid issues.
Bovine adrenal substance is an adrenal glandular used to combat adrenal fatigue.
Thyroid glandular substance is a supplement used to stimulate the thyroid gland to produce more hormone.
