Five-Week Education Program on Dementia
Starting February 2, and running for five consecutive Thursdays from 1 to 2:30 p.m., the
Open Door Methodist Church in Cocoa will hold First Steps, an interactive education program for people who are newly diagnosed with dementia. Caregivers are also welcome to attend.
First Steps is an interactive five-part program based on the Taking Action Workbook. This program is specifically designed for people who are in the early stages of dementia and their caregivers. Sessions will involve discussing what attendees need to know, what needs to be planned and what can be done to navigate this chapter in life.
Topics will include understanding the diagnosis and ways to partner with a medical team, effective communication and coping strategies, exploring legal and financial concerns, daily strategies and safety issues and exploring available community resources.
