Platelets are a component of blood and are considered some of the body’s “first responders” that arrive to stop the bleeding and promote healing. To produce PRP, a patient’s own blood sample is spun in a centrifuge to separate the components of the blood. The platelet-rich plasma, or PRP, contains growth factors to assist in the regenerative process. “This process uses the body’s own ability to regenerate hair by using your own PRP,” says Dr. Dean. Hair regrowth can take from three to six months. Treatments are done in a series of 3 sessions, typically 6 weeks apart.
