Treasure Coast Food Bank Promotes Food as Medicine

Judith Cruz, president and CEO of Treasure Coast Food Bank, is bringing new momentum to the concept of food as medicine through innovative programs aimed at improving community health. Under Cruz’s leadership, the organization has introduced the FRESHCareRx program, which provides scratch-made meals, nutrition counseling, education, and referrals for individuals with chronic illnesses. “We aim to offer not just food, but the right food that nourishes and supports better health outcomes,” says Cruz.

The food bank recently expanded its efforts by joining the Food is Medicine Coalition Project, gaining insights from experts in medically tailored meals. This collaboration, coupled with the upcoming 132,000-square-foot facility featuring a production kitchen and community engagement hub, represents the organization’s commitment to expanding their culinary, nutrition, and wellness programs to address hunger and long-term health solutions.

Cruz emphasizes the importance of community involvement in this mission. “Whether through volunteering, donating, or spreading the word about the power of food as medicine, your involvement can make a real difference.”
