The Chinese calculate age based on the lunar cycle not on the calendar year. In their culture, a person’s experience and wisdom are the basis for how someone is viewed, not their physical age. Where we might see only a young boy, upon looking deeper there may indeed be ancient wisdom. Unfortunately since so much of our culture is based on physical age we automatically assume that if someone is an adult then they have some level of wisdom.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimates that 60,000 chemicals have been buried or dumped throughout the U.S. over the last 100 years. According to the Palm Beach Post, on average 196 pounds of pesticides are currently used for every acre of tomatoes grown in Florida. These environmental toxins not only have a disastrous impact on our environment but our bodies as well. Some of these toxins make it into our food directly from pesticides, pollution, etc. but others may come from the packaging material such as plastic wraps, plastic storage containers, water systems or the air we breathe.

Why is it that cancer now occurs in one out of three people? That heart disease is at the top of the list? That diabetes is on the rise? These are all considered degenerative diseases. People do not just get cancer, and heart disease does not strike a healthy person. These diseases have been developing over time because of oxidative stress in our bodies.

In recent times many of us have had to deal with colossal disappointments in the form of personal, political, economic, and even ecological disasters. This has caused many of us to feel a loss of control and a feeling of absolute powerlessness in our personal lives. Who could possibly imagine that cooking – slaving over a hot stove – could be a source of empowerment? How absurd! Yet, given some thought, it really is a true expression of freedom of choice, which in itself is power. Imagine having the freedom to choose health over illness; to choose nutritious whole foods over the addictive processed foods. The freedom to feel a sense of accomplishment when making a healthy meal, and the inevitable power of being able to choose what you put in your body as well as that of your family. Imagine the freedom of choosing to look years younger instead of prematurely older.

Skin cancer is the number one form of cancer affecting Americans today. According to InteliHealth Consumer Information, "the amount of skin cancer has increased dramatically during the past two decades, mainly because of cumulative exposure to the ultraviolet rays of the sun. If current trends continue, the National Cancer Institute warns, from 40 percent to 50 percent of all Americans who live to age 65 will develop at least one skin cancer."
