Is your pet itching and scratching? It could be caused by food allergies. Classic symptoms that dogs exhibit include facial itching, foot and limb chewing, belly itching, and recurrent ear infections. Food allergies for cats, on the other hand, usually produce scabs and other signs of itching around the face and neck. Your pet may show one or more of these symptoms.

After examining the results of 238 questionnaires completed by students attending middle school or high school, researchers say missed sleep can lead to poor performance in school for adolescents. Children are a source of happiness, laughter and love. Yet in 1975, 150,000 American children were being drugged to treat a little known condition called Hyperactivity Disorder. By 1997, that number had skyrocketed to 4.4 million. Today, it is estimated that more than 6 million children in the U.S., diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), are taking powerful, psychiatric drugs.

Traditional Chinese medicine holds that the life force energy, or qi, is everywhere and in everything. It is in the foods we put in our bodies (the fresher the better) and the relationships we cultivate whether good and bad. You feel it most when you are in nature enjoying your favorite lake, forests, mountains, or even by the ocean. It is far more than just oxygen that you are feeling and your body intuitively knows this. It flows in the body in canals called meridians. According to practitioners of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) this flow of your life force energy is as important as blood circulation and this flow is usually compromised before health challenges (disease) manifest in the physical body.

Many people think of aromatherapy as just something that smells good. That should be a key factor, yet, that is only a part of the healing traits of aromatherapy. Many of the "aromatherapy" products that line the shelves of common markets now are not really what they are advertising to be. The Miller family is probably much like yours. They rush from one place to another: after work and school; mom and dad take the kids from swimming to soccer practice, from piano and guitar lessons to gymnastics and baseball games. Every day is full of activity. When they finally head home for the evening, they want to relax and enjoy their time together. Even with all the running around they do, the average family, the Millers, included, spends about 90% of their time indoors.

Fruit is in full bloom, sweet, juicy, watery, cool and yummy. These foods are ripe and it's time for them to be consumed; grapes, strawberries, blueberries, mulberries, raspberries, cherries and berries of all types. Melons, pears, apples, peaches and all of the juicy foods that run down your chin as you eat them. These foods are cooling, so they can counter the excess heat without freezing the digestion. Watermelon is especially good at warding off summer-heat. Not only can you eat the yummy red center, but you can also boil the rind when you're done and make a tea. Let the tea cool and slightly sweeten and you have an excellent herbal decoction to ward off summer-heat.
